We had our first Green Flag meeting today in the library. A big welcome to all our new boys and girls (and parents and teachers!!) on the committee this year. New children were chosen from Junior Infants to 6th Class to be on the Green Flag Committee.
The whole school community worked very hard for the last 2 years to get our fifth Green Flag for Biodiversity. We had great fun learning all about Biodiversity!
This year we will be looking at our next Green topic "Global Citizenship" . This is a 2 year programme and we will be posting updates on our Green Blog regularly!
Remember to keep recycling at home and at school!

Night-time visitor
Look at this gorgeous photo of a hedgehog! Lucy, Rebekah and Tadhg found her last weekend. This is what they had to say:
"Look what came into our backyard last weekend, a hedgehog! To our surprise she shuffled in and curled up into a protective ball when our dog went near her and when our outside lights came on. Eventually after an hour or so she scurried off....hopefully to hibernate for the Winter ahead." Lucy, Rebekah and Tadhg Clavin

Siobhán's batty new friend!
Siobhán from room 18 brought in a baby bat for us to see. Her Daddy found it. Have a read at what she had to say:
Here is a picture of a bat. Siobhán found out loads of interesting information on bats too. Here are some batty facts for you:
(a) Bats can be as large as a small dog or as small as a bumblebee..
(b) Bats can live up to 30 years.
(c) There are more than 1.000 bat species around the world.
(d) Bats come from two different groups - mega-bats and micro-bats.
(e) Bats are not likely to attack people or pets - PHEW!!!!!
I
brought a baby bat to school today to show my friends in Room 18 and my Teacher
Ms. O Hare. My Daddy caught him. We placed him in an old plastic container with
holes in it so that he could breathe. I
brought him around the school to show him to the teachers and students. Some
people thought he was cool and cute, others thought he was freaky. After school I let him go free.
